Far From Home could have seen him on his own adventure, but then Thanos happened and the sequel instead saw him try to become "the next Iron Man". Homecoming ended with the promise of agency for Spider-Man as he turned down the chance to join the Avengers. It always felt like Spidey was fighting Iron Man's battles, either because he was busy elsewhere or, you know, dead. Not only that, the main villains that Holland's Spider-Man faced in both movies – Vulture and Mysterio, respectively – both held grudges against Iron Man rather than Spider-Man. Homecoming saw him try to prove himself to his superhero mentor and in Far From Home he tried to live up to his legacy. In both of Tom Holland's solo adventures so far, he's been defined by his relationship with Iron Man. As with Homecoming and Far From Home, it feels like we could get another Spider-Man movie that's not really about Spider-Man. The jokes have already started that "sources say" Tom Holland has a cameo in the movie as well as Spider-Man, and we can't help feeling that there's some truth in that. It's worth noting that none of these casting reports have been confirmed by Marvel Studios, Sony or any of the cast and crew members currently working on the third movie, but there's so much noise from reliable sources that it's almost definitely true.
